Today, March 14th - or 3/14 as it's written in American shorthand - is Pi Day. We learnt how calculate Pi from a variety of different circles and learnt some fun facts about the number Pi. We learnt that it is an irrational number, which means that it can't make a fraction and cannot be calculated using any of the five operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide and indices).
We made a paper chain of Pi to 200 decimal places. We wanted to investigate whether there were any patterns in Pi by doing odd numbers in pink and even numbers in blue. There were no patterns as far as we could see.
