Last week Year 6 (and all of Key Stage 2 - Years 3 to 6) had a lot of fun and learnt a lot about investigative science through science week. Year 6 were in mixed age groups with all the children from Key Stage 2. Some of them were in Mr Porter's group. His group investigated the speed at which different types of chocolate melted.
Some were in Ms Elrick's class. They did an investigation into air resistance, using paper aeroplanes.
Some were in Mr Wilkinson's group who did a very colourful experiment about density.
Some were in Ms Philips group who did a natural experiment to test materials for their properties (specifically alkalinity and acidity).
All of the experiments incorporated scientific procedures including question and hypothesis formulation, ensuring fair testing, repeating tests to improve reliability, carefully recorded results and drawing conclusions from our results which informed our next questions.
