We have learnt that sounds are created by objects vibrating. Today we did a science experiment to find out if the length of the string affected the sound of spoons dangling from them, when we hit them. We set 4 different lengths of string and hit them to observe the sound they made. We were careful to ensure we kept the spoons the same, hit the spoons in the same place and with the same force, to ensure it was a fair test.
We concluded that the length of the string did make a difference to the pitch of the sound. Do you know what it was? What, do you think, affected the volume of the sound? What's the difference between pitch and volume? Ask Year 6 and they'll be able to tell you.
